1843 Large Post Road Transportation Map Germany Post-Reise-Karte von Deutschland

A large-format 1843 post-road and transportation map of the German Confederation. This is a decorative, large-format transportation map of the German Confederation. More than a simple map of the territory, it offers a variety of interesting features, including small engraved railway scenes in the upper corners and steamship scenes in the lower corners. Additionally, important post-road routes are highlighted throughout the map. The German Confederation was an association of thirty-nine German-speaking states in Central Europe, created by the Congress of Vienna in 1815 to coordinate the economies of separate German-speaking countries and to replace the former Holy Roman Empire, which had been dissolved in 1806. Piloty & Loehle were lithographic printers and publishers, operating in Munich in the mid-19th century. Condition is very good. Scattered foxing and minor soiling. Mounted on linen and divided into segments, folding into original slipcase, which is worn but intact. Dimensions: 98 x 116 cm (38.5 x 45.5 in). We are always happy to consider reasonable offers. GENUINE VINTAGE ADMIRALTY CHART. THE CHANNELS AND ROAD TO MORLAIX. Hydrographic charts or Admiralty charts are maps designed as aids to navigation at sea. They are produced by the British Admiralty. The Hydrographic Office, a sub-department of the British Admiralty, was established in 1795 and issued its first officially published Admiralty chart in November 1800. Admiralty charts show navigational hazards such as reefs and wrecks, and navigational aids such as lights, buoys and beacons. Nineteenth-century charts may show coastal elevations and topographic views, useful to identify landfalls and prominent fixing marks. They may also include details of coastal forts and other defenses. Admiralty charts are continually updated and corrected. These corrections were often made by amending the original engraved plate and issuing the chart as a new edition; in other cases the chart was completely re-drawn. DESCRIPTION/CONDITION: Chart Number 2744. Published London at the Admiralty 1861. Large corrections to 1880, small corrections to 1909, centre fold as issued. Potter, Agent for the Sale of the Admiralty Charts. Large navigation chart on heavy grade paper measuring overall 100cm x 69cm (39″ x 27″). Condition: creasing and small edge tears left margin not affecting image area – please refer to images and examine carefully. Genuine rare (could not find another of this vintage). Ith last correction (update) in 1909 – this chart is genuinely over 100 years old and. A recent copy or more recent printing as, you will find, most charts are.
