A large-format 1843 post-road and transportation map of the German Confederation. This is a decorative, large-format transportation map of the German Confederation. More than a simple map of the territory, it offers a variety of interesting features, including small engraved railway scenes in the upper corners and steamship scenes in the lower corners. Additionally, important post-road routes are highlighted throughout the map. The German Confederation was an association of thirty-nine German-speaking states in Central Europe, created by the Congress of Vienna in 1815 to coordinate the economies of separate German-speaking countries and to replace the former Holy Roman Empire, which had been dissolved in 1806. Piloty & Loehle were lithographic printers and publishers, operating in Munich in the mid-19th century. Condition is very good. Scattered foxing and minor soiling. Mounted on linen and divided into segments, folding into original slipcase, which is worn but intact. Dimensions: 98 x 116 cm (38.5 x 45.5 in). We are always happy to consider reasonable offers.
