SAVOY FRANCE 1654 Pierre DU VAL 17e CENTURY UNUSUAL LARGE ANTIQUE ENGRAVED MAP

Title of the map. “CARTE DE SAVOYE et des pais de GENEVOIS, FAUSSIGNI, CHABLAIS, MORIENNE, ET TARANTAISE Dédiée A MONSEIGNEUR HENRY DE SAVOYE DUC D’AUMALE Par son tres humble et obeissant serviteur et Geographe du Val”. The map covers Savoy in France, and a part of Swiss. It extends from Grenoble to the Leman lake. With a very nice decorative cartouche with the Arms of the region. On back, 4 lines of antique handwritten text in old French, of the same period, describing the map. Pierre du Val was a French geographer, cartographer and publisher. He was the nephew of Nicolas Sanson d’Abbeville. They worked together at the court of the King of France. He was the geographer of the King from 1650 to 1683. Size with margins : 56 x 42,5 cm / 22 x 16,5 inches. Condition : very good condition. On strong paper, antique colors. Edition : De l’imprimerie de Pierre Mariette, rue S. Savoy France 1663 Nicolas Sanson Large Antique Engraved Map 17th Century

Title of the map. PARTIE MERIDIONALE des ESTATS de SAVOYE ou sont le DUCHE de SAVOYE, les COMTES de TARENTAISE et MORIENNE et partie du BUGEY &c. Divisés en leurs Mandements ou Parties. Par le St SANSON d’Abbeville Geographe ordinaire de sa Majesté A PARIS Chez Pierre Mariette Rue St Iacques a l’esperance Avec privilege du Roy pour vingt ans 1663. The map depicts the county of Tarentaise and Maurienne, Grenoble, Bourg St Maurice and the Isere river. 43,7 x 59 cm / 16,9 x 23,2 inches. Colors, on strong paper. Nicolas Sanson d’Abbeville was to bring about the rise of French cartography, although the fierce competition of the Dutch would last until the end of the century. His success was partly owing to the partnership with the publisher Pierre Mariette. In 1657 Pierre Mariette died, however his son, also named Pierre, co-published Les Cartes Générales de toutes les parties du Monde the following year. Savoy France 1782 Placide / Dechaussee Unusual Large Antique Map 18th Century

Title of the map. LA SAVOYE DEDIEE AU ROY PAR LE P. PLACIDE Augustin Dechaussée Géographe Ordinaire du Roi, Nouvellement Revue Corrigée et Augmentée D’après les Cartes et Ouvrages Géographiques de Guil. Del’Isle Avec Privilege du Roi 1782. A Paris chez Dezauche Géographe Successeur des Srs Delisle et Buache 1ers Géographes du Roi et de l’Académie Royal des Sces rue des Noyers. The map extends from Piemonte in south to Lausanne in north. A nice decorative cartouche with a globe crowned by fleur-de-lys. In left upper side, a table describing the different ducheys. Size with margins : 76 x 56 cm / 29,9 x 22 inches. Very good condition, on strong paper, very well engraved, large margins, in colors. Paris, XVIIIe Century, dated 1782, edited by Dezauche. Very large (double page) nice and unusual map of SAVOY in France, with the MONT-BLANC. With 2 nice Cartouches. Title of the map. LA SAVOIA divisa nelle sue Principalli Provincie da Giacomo Cantelli de Vignola Geografo del Sereniss. Sig Duca di Mod e data in Luce….. The map depicts the modern French departments of Savoie & Haute-Savoie, and the adjacents parts of the Italian Alps, Valais, and Vaud, including Lake Geneva. And the Italian Alps. “Monti di Ghiacio” is written as “Mont-Blanc”. The map is engraved by Antonio Barbey. Giovanni Giacomo de Rossi. Was an italian engraver a. Nd painter, at the end of XVIIe Century. Edition: From Mercurio Geografico overo Guida G. Eografica in Tutte Le Parti del Mondo, Rome, 1692, XVIIe century. For this atlas, Giacomo de Rossi worked with Giacomo Cantelli da Vignola. The firm published also maps from Nicolas Sanson. Later, the firm was solded to Lorenzo Filippo, knowned as “Calcografia Nazionale”, then, the “Regia Calcografica”. It still exits today as “Calcografia Nazionale”. It is as a museum which owns one of the most important and nice maps of the world. Size with margins : 60 x 82,5 cm / 23,6 x 32,2 inches. On very strong paper, well engraved.
