Large nice and unusual map of Normandy, France. With a large cartouche titled. GOVERNO di NORMANDIA descritto da Giacomo Cantelli da Vignola Geografo del Sereniss. Sig Duca di Modena, e dato in luce, da Domenico de Rossi crede di Gio Giac de Rossi dalle sue Stampe in Roma alla Pace con Privil. L’Anno 1692 il di 30 Agosto. In left side, the Shetland islands. In upper side, a small part of the British coast, and the isle of Wight. Size with margins : 60,7 x 47 cm / 23,6 x 18,5 inches. Condition : very good condition. On very strong paper, well engraved, handed colored. Edition: From Mercurio Geografico overo Guida G. Eografica in Tutte Le Parti del Mondo, Rome, dated 30 August 1692, 17th century. Giovanni Giacomo de Rossi. Was an italian engraver a. Nd painter, at the end of XVIIe Century. For this atlas, Giacomo de Rossi worked with Giacomo Cantelli da Vignola. The firm published also maps from Nicolas Sanson. Later, the firm was solded to Lorenzo Filippo, knowned as “Calcografia Nazionale”, then, the “Regia Calcografica”. It still exits today as “Calcografia Nazionale”. It is as a museum which owns one of the most important and nice maps of the world. Normandy France 1640 Willem Blaeu Nice Large Antique Map 17th Century

Title of the map. The map is decorated with a nice cartouche and a nice coat of arms. Willem Blaeu was the founder of the Blaeu cartography dynasty, the finest mapmakers of the Golden age of Dutch cartography. He studied astronomy with Tycho Brahe at Uranienborg, and moved to Amsterdam to establish a shop in 1605, close his contemporaries and rivals Johannes Janssonius and Jacob Colom. He produced globes at first. The sons of Willem, Johan and Joan, joined him in the firm. They produced their first atlas together in 1630 the “Atlas Appendix”. Five years later, their produced their “Atlas Novus”, edited in 4 languages. After the death of Willem, Joan expanded the Atlas Novus into the Atlas Major, the largest atlas of its time. This edition had between nine and twelve volumes, beautifully engraved and coloured. In 1648, they produced a very large wall world map in 20 parts. And they continued to produce globes too. With a nice cartouche dedicated to S. DUCATO DI NORMANDI Dedicato All’ Illustris, et Ecceletissimo S. PIETRO DONA Fratello dell’Excellentiss S. Proc Lunardo dal P Coronelli. Venice, from “Corso Geografico Universale”, 1690, 17th century. The famous geographe Vincenzo Coronelli, was an inventor and a doctor of Theology, he was Citizen of the Republic of Venice. He was the most prominent mapmakers and Publishers in Europe of his time. He is very famous for his very large Globes realised for the King Louis XIV.
