Very unusual game board, “jeu de l’Oie” in French, by Maurille Antoine Mothey, 18e century. The game is composed by 109 small cartouches containing the names of French provinces or cities. In the center, a map of the kingdom of France drawn up by Mothey, while the spiral track surrounding it begins with the departure from Paris and ends by the Portrait of Louis XVI in medaillon, the ultimate square of the game. France is described in superlative terms in text to the right of the map beginning France is the best and one of the most abundant countries of Europe… Each case represents a governemnt or a town of France, with some commentaries. The game begins by the case 1 decorated by the fleur de lys (the symbol of the royalty in France) with the commentary de Paris a l’ORLEANOIS Vins Bled Safran par Fontainebleau Nemours.. “, the last case is the number 109 decorated by the portrait of Louis XV, King of “France and Navarre”, with the commentary “PARIS Provoté et Vicomté… Sur la Riviere de Seyne Residence des ROIS et la Capitale du Roiaume de FRANCE Gouvernement Particulier. The first step is to choose a guide who will say out loud the names of the towns visited and their governmental area. The player must repeat this accurately, or pay a penalty. For his services, the Guide takes a third of the eventual winnings. There is instructions in the different cases. For example, at Limo(u)sin (space 38), this one is described as a bad country mauvais pais.. so the game requires one to withdraw from the game; in Bourgogne (space 79), there is an abondance of wine and forests… The text on the right side of the map gives another way of playing the game, wherebay each player takes the name of a particular province. The player wins when each player takes the name of a particular province and he wins when he has reached its capital. Moithey was named Ingenior of the King Louis XVI in 1780. The game is composed with 102 + 87 small cartouches, representing the History and the Kings of France, from Pharamond to Louis XV. This is a double game. Outside, a spiral of 102 numbered cases, each one contains the mention of a dated event. The game begins by the case 1 with the event “Les 1ers François s’établissent le long du haut Rhin et elisent Pharamond pour leur Roy en 420″, the last case is the number 102 with the event “Naissance du Dauphin, qui a été donné a la France pour combler son bonheur en 1729″. Inside the spiral, 87 numbered cases drawing a crenellated line. Each case contains the name of a King of France from Pharamond, the first one, to LOUIS XV in 1715.
