Description: A rare decorative 1949 Louis Larmat map of the Alsace wine region on the left bank of the Rhine between Strasbourg and Mulhouse. All of the major wine growing areas and vineyards are highlighted in red. This region is admired worldwide for its exceptional Rieslings and highly aromatic Gewâ^sºrztraminer wines. The map itself is surrounded by 37 heraldic shields representing Alsatian cities, including a large shield for Alsace itself at top center, all prepared by Robert Louis. An inset of the Wissembourg wine region appears in the upper let quadrant. Separate issue wine maps in general are uncommon and highly desirable. The OCLC identifies only two examples of this map in French institutional collections. This one was issued by Louis Larmat and printed in France in 1949. Size: Printed area measures 34 inches high by 23 inches wide. Laid down on canvas, poster style.
