Title of the map. ETAT DE L’EGLISE, GRAND DUCHE DE TOSCANE ET ISLE DE CORSE, Par le S. Du Roy Avec Privilege 1750. In left side, Corsica. The map is embellished with a nice cartouche. In 1757, Gilles and Didier Robert de Vaugondy published “The Atlas Universel”, one of the most important atlases of the 18th century. To produce the atlas, the Vaugondy’s integrated older sources with more modern surveyed maps. In 1760, Didier Robert de Vaugondy was appointed geographer of the king Louis XV. Gilles often signed maps as “Robert, while Didier commonly signed his maps as “Robert de Vaugondy”, or added “fils” or “filio after his name. The Robert de Vaugondy family were descended from the Nicolas Sanson family. Good condition, handed colored, strong paper with watermark. Da Giacomo Cantelli da Vignola, E data in luce, da GIO GIACOMO DE ROSSI, dalle sue Stampe , alla Pace, l’anno 1680, in Roma, con Prin. The map shows the MONT BLANC, the northern part of Italy, a small part of southeastern France and Switzerland. We can see the French Riviera, the Gulf of Genova, a part of Savoy in France (Mont-Blanc, Annecy, Chambery) of Switzerland (Lausanne, Geneve), and the region of the Lakes in Italy. The map is engraved by Georgio Widman. Giovanni Giacomo de Rossi was an italian engraver and painter, at the end of XVIIe Century. Edition: From “Mercurio Geografico overo Guida Geografica in Tutte Le Parti del Mondo”. For this atlas, Giacomo de Rossi worked with Giacomo Cantelli da Vignola. The firm published also maps from Nicolas Sanson. Later, the firm was solded to Lorenzo Filippo, knowned as “Calcografia Nazionale”, then, the “Regia Calcografica”. It still exits today as “Calcografia Nazionale”. It is as a museum which owns one of the most important and nice maps of the world. Size with margins : 60 x 46,4 cm / 23,6 x 18,1 inches.
