This incredible map by Johann Baptist Homann dates to circa 1720. It covers the beautiful Bordeaux wine region in southwestern France. Covers the traditional region of Aquitania including Guyenne and Gascony (Vasconia) from the Bay of Biscay east as far at the Mediterranean and from the Gironde estuary south to the Pyrenees Mountains. Three insets surrounded by beautiful ornate border depict the fortification plans of Bayonne and Blaye and a vignette view of the city of Bordeaux. Famous for some of the world’s finest red wines, the region covers the modern day departments of Gironde, Lot-et-Garonne, Dordogne, Gers, and the surrounding areas. A large title cartouche features figures of a soldier, Neptune, a queen, a maiden and a royal crest.
