The map was once in an atlas or book sometime in the past and removed, framed, and offered here. The map is on older paper with an uneven finish and is hand colored. Cannot say when this piece was actually printed. Around 1644 or sometime after. You be the judge before acquiring. No certificate of authenticity comes with this engraving. The map and the pages on the back have not been examined out of the frame. This is a copper plate engraving, most likely the. Anthoine de Vauconsains edition done in Paris, France. In a rendering found online on Getty Images, there was a lower piece of a scene looking over an area. Not sure if folded under or no longer there. Cannot find another one of these old engravings available online for sale as of the time we listed this piece. Some slight browning of the paper of the engraving. No watermarks or foxing is evident. There is a crease down the middle of the engraving vertically. Not sure if the piece came from a book or just from someone folding. Also, a crease in the paper that runs the full length horizontally. Some creasing of the map and pages in places under the glass. These battles took place during 1644 which would have been under Louis XIVs reign, the wording on the map mentions Louis XIII. The rendering shows the camps, castles, and military deployments along the Rhein River in Germany. The engraving is on older paper. The detail of the map are still quite vivid. Some separation, especially along the vertical crease. No tears or repairs to the map that we can ascertain. The engraving has not been examined out of the frame. A beautiful example of this engraving. The engraver was most likely a. Anthoine de Vauconsains edition, 1644, done in Paris, France, a copper engraving. The map is in a gold colored wood frame. The frame shows some finish loss and paint spatter in places. The glass over the map and the pages on the back is intact, no cracking or blistering. Other items that can be seen in the pics are not included. Just the framed engraving described here. The Antique battle map rendering in frame is 27.5″ tall, by 40.5″ across, by 13/16 wide.
