Title of the map. TABULA DEPHINATUS Vulgo LE GOUVERNEMENT GENERAL DU DAUPHINE… In eastern part of the map, northern Italy is described with Turin. A large magnificent decorative cartouche. The map is very detailed with major cities and rivers. Size with margins : 52,5 x 62,5 cm / 20,4 x 24,4 inches. In colors, well engraved, on strong paper. Edition : Nuremberg, from “Atlas Novus Terrarum”, c. He founded his company in 1702. In 1705, he became the Geograph of the Emperor Charles VI. In the same year, he was also Member of the Prussian Academy of Sciences in Berlin. They protected the authors in all scientific fields such as printers, copper engravers, map makers and publishers. In 1716 Homann published his “Grosser Atlas ueber die ganze Welt” (Grand Atlas of all the World). Some maps were drawned with the engraver Christoph Weigel the Elder. Homann died in Nuremberg. Dauphine France 1751 Robert De Vaugondy Large Antique Map In Colors 18th Century

Title of the map. “GOUVERNEMENT GENERAL DU DAUPHINE divisé par Bailliages, par le Sr ROBERT, Géographe ordinaire du Roy, Avec Privilege 1751″. Large antique copper engraved map of Dauphine, in eastern France. The map extends from the valley of Rhone in west to Fenestrelle in east, and from Belley in north to Sisteron in south. A large nice decorative cartouche in colors. In 1757, Gilles and Didier Robert de Vaugondy published “The Atlas Universel”, one of the most important atlases of the 18th century. To produce the atlas, the Vaugondy’s integrated older sources with more modern surveyed maps. In 1760, Didier Robert de Vaugondy was appointed geographer of the king Louis XV. Gilles often signed maps as “Robert, while Didier commonly signed his maps as “Robert de Vaugondy”, or added “fils” or “filio after his name. Size with margins : 66,5 x 51 cm / 25,9 x 20 inch. Dauphine France 1634-42 De Beins/ Blaeu Unusual Large Antique Map 17th Century

Title of the map. “DELPHINATUS vulgo DAUPHINE Avec les Confins des Pais et provinces voisines Par Iean de Beins geographe et Ingenieur du Roy”. Large and unusual antique copper engraved map of the province of Dauphiné in France, by Willem & Johannes BLAEU, XVIIe Century. He made the first map of Dauphiné. With 2 nice decorative cartouches, and 2 nice coasts of arms. The map shows the cities of Valence, Grenoble, Vienne. Size with margins : 48,5 x 57 cm / 18,8 x 22,4 inches. Edition : Amsterdam, 1634-42, XVIIe Century, Latin edition. Condition : very good condition, old colors. Willem Blaeu was the founder of the Blaeu cartography dynasty, the finest mapmakers of the Golden age of Dutch cartography. He studied astronomy with Tycho Brahe at Uranienborg, and moved to Amsterdam to establish a shop in 1605, close his contemporaries and rivals Johannes Janssonius and Jacob Colom. He produced globes at first. The sons of Willem, Johan and Joan, joined him in the firm. They produced their first atlas together in 1630 the “Atlas Appendix”. Five years later, their produced their “Atlas Novus”, edited in 4 languages. After the death of Willem, Joan expanded the Atlas Novus into the Atlas Major, the largest atlas of its time. This edition had between nine and twelve volumes, beautifully engraved and coloured. In 1648, they produced a very large wall world map in 20 parts. And they continued to produce globes too. Dauphine France 1667 Nicolas Sanson Large Antique Engraved Map 17th Century

Title of the map. “LE GOUVERNEMENT GENERAL DU DAUFINE et des pays circomvoisins ou sont LA SAVOYE, LA BRESSE, Par le Sr SANSON d’Abbeville Geographe ordinaire du Roy Avec privilege pour vingt ans 1667″. The map, centered on Chambery, extends from the lake of Geneve in north to Piemont in south. In left side, the river Rhone, wih Lyon in the center. Edition : Paris, dated 1667. 42,5 x 57,5 cm / 16,5 x 22,4 inches. Colors, on strong paper. Born in Abbeville, active from 1627. Nicolas Sanson d’Abbeville was to bring about the rise of French cartography, although the fierce competition of the Dutch would last until the end of the century. His success was partly owing to the partnership with the publisher Pierre Mariette. In 1657 Pierre Mariette died, however his son, also named Pierre, co-published Les Cartes Générales de toutes les parties du Monde the following year. Dauphiné French Alps 1690 CORONELLI Original Antique Map Grenoble Lyon FRANCE

First State (with differences in the coat of arms and in the title) of this scarce map of the Rhone-Alps and environs by Coronelli from the monumental Corso Geografico Universale published in Venice, 1690. The map is centered on the area around Grenoble depicted as prospect view! In the French Alps. Lyon is shown at the upper left corner. Vincenzo Maria Coronelli is widely recognized as one of Italy’s most famous and greatest cartographers. He received an ecclesiastical education at the convent of the Minor Conventuals and also studied theology in Rome. However, his interests in geography and cartography were awoken early in his ecclesiastical career and never suppressed. He made very famous globes (including an impressive very large-scale pair for Louis XIV) and some of the most interesting and decorative atlases of all 17th century like Atlante Veneto, Isolario, Corso Geografico Universale, Libro dei Globi and also some pocket books about towns and islands. These important works are all finely engraved in his unique style with high quantity of toponymic and historical information. In 1680 Coronelli also founded the oldest surviving geographical society The Argonauts Accademy. From: Corso Geografico Universale – Venice, 1690. Size: copperplate 60,5 x 45 cm.
