Danville’s Hand Colored Map – 1767. This is an authentic Antique Map of Palestine by Jean Baptiste dAnville. The map was published out of Paris in 1767. Informative map that shows the area of Palestine and present day Israel as it was known to the ancients. The map is surrounded by three separate inserts showing the 12 tribes of Israel, a plan of Jerusalem, and the positions of the various cities and villages from one another. In the lower right a distance key displays scales in Roman, Greek, Arabic, French, and Hebrew miles. DAnville was known for his improved standards of accuracy and knowledge in his maps. He left unknown areas of continents blank and noted doubtful information as such, which was a stark contrast to many of the lavish and decorative maps of his predecessors. This hand-colored map is in good condition with minor age toning. It has several stubborn wrinkles that have been flattened out using japan paper. The size of the map is about 17 1/2″ x 15″ plus margins. This fine map is suitable for framing and would be an excellent gift. The map that is being offered is entitled. Each additional print ships.
