Title of the map. GOUVERNEMENT GENERAL DE BRETAGNE ou se trouve LA GENERALITE DE NANTES Par N. Rare antique copper engraved. Of Brittany, in western France, by Nicolas DE FER, XVIIIe century. The map is engraved by P. His earliest wellknown map of the canal de Languedoc, realised in 1669. In 1697, he published his first world atlas. In 1695, De Fer, with several other notable French mapmakers, became founding contributors to the French Bureau of Maps and Plans. This bureau, created to deal with the technical and strategic problems of overseas commerce and exploration, was part of the Royal Academy of Sciences Ministry of the Navy and Colonies. Size with margins : 26,2 x 38,5 cm / 10,2 x 14,9 inches. Condition : very good condition, in colors. A Paris, Chez l’Auteur dans l’Isle du Palais a la Sphère Royale avec Privilege du Roy 1705. Brittany Bretagne Morbihan France 1699 Van Keulen Large Unusual Antique Map

Title of the map. Nieuwe Pascaart Van de Zeekuften Van BRETANGNE Beginnende…. “Carte Marine de la Cistes de BRETANGNE depuis la Commancement de la Rivierre de Loire Jusqu’o Isle de Groa Pr Jooght Geometra a Amsterdam Chez Iean Van Ceulen Vendeur des Cartes Marines Vis à Vis du Pont Neuf”. Very rare large copper engraved sea chart of the southeast coast of Brittany in France, specially the department of Morbihan. Johannes Van Keulen was the most influential Dutch sea chart’s editor at the end of the 17th century. He worked with the cartographe Claes Janszoon Vooght. His major work is “Nieuwe Lichtende Zee-Fakkel” a very nice atlas in 6 volumes, describing the oceans all over the world, published in 1681. This important work results from the collaboration of Van Keulen and Vooght. The maps are illustrated by Jan Luyken. This atlas is edited between 1681 and 1684. In 1699, is edited the first French edition of this atlas with the title “Nouveau et Grand Illuminant Flambeau de la mer”. This map has been edited in this atlas. The sea charts of this atlas are very famous and were the major reference for the european navigators during the first part of the 18th century. This map extends from “Groa” (Groix) to the Loire river. The cartographe is Claes Janszoon Vooght. The map is illustrated with a nice cartouche in upper right, with the titles in Dutch and in French. In left bottom, the scales Dutch, Spanish, French and British. Quiberon seams detached from the continent. The marshlands are represented. We can see Groix island, the gulf of Morbihan, Vannes, Belle Ile named “Belle Isle”, Hoedic named ” Hedie Isle” et Houat named “Houat Isle”, Le Croisic, Lorient. In upper side of the map, in inset, the strait of Port Louis and Groix island. The page is numbered 221/2; no text on verso. Size with margins : 59,5 x 50,2 cm / 23,2 x 19,6 inches. Good condition, a small default in the center lower margin, old colors. Edited by Johannes Van Keulen, French edition, 1699, 17th Century. Brittany Bretagne France 1591 Bouguereau Very Unusual Large Antique Map

Title of the map. “DESCRIPTION DU PAYS ARMORIQUE A PRES BRETAIGNE”. Very rare large copper engraved map of Bretagne, Brittany, in France. By Maurice Bouguereau 15. ? This is the third printed map of Brittany. Maurice Bouguereau was a French printer, bookseller, cartographer and publisher. His most important work is “Le Theatre Francoys” edited in 1594. It was the first national atlas of France. This atlas has been ordered by the king Henri IV who wanted to demonstrate the power of the kingdom of France and the fight for its unification. Le Theatre Françoys contains 14 regional maps and 3 general maps of France. This map has been established from a map of Bertrand d’Argentré, who made the first printed map of Brittany. De Daimville, this map has been engraved during the first semester of 1591. Bouguereau has signed this map “Coesarodumi Turonum in Aedibus Mauricij Boguerealdi” in lower right side, near “Nantes”. The map is decorated by 3 large compass, the coat of arms in upper center. In bottom right, the scale is in “lieues”. The map extends from Ile de Noirmoutier in south to Mont St Michel in north.
