Large nice and unusual map of Bretagne, Brittany, in France. With a large cartouche engraved by A. Barbey, showing the arms of Brittany, and titled. GOVERNO GNALE del Ducato di BRETAGNA diviso nelle sue Nuove DIOCESI ET RECEPTIONI da Giacomo Cantelli da Vignola Geografo del Sereniss. Sig Duca di Modena, e dato in Luce, da Domenico de Rossi crede di Gio Giac de Rossi dalle sue Stampe in Roma alla Pace con Privil. E licenza de Sup. L’Anno 1692 il di 15 Ottobre. Size with margins : 60,7 x 47 cm / 23,6 x 18,5 inches. Condition : very good condition. On very strong paper, well engraved, handed colored. Edition: From Mercurio Geografico overo Guida G. Eografica in Tutte Le Parti del Mondo, Rome, dated 15 October 1692, 17th century. Giovanni Giacomo de Rossi. Was an italian engraver a. Nd painter, at the end of the 17th century. For this atlas, Giacomo de Rossi worked with Giacomo Cantelli da Vignola. The firm published also maps from Nicolas Sanson. Later, the firm was solded to Lorenzo Filippo, knowned as “Calcografia Nazionale”, then, the “Regia Calcografica”. It still exits today as “Calcografia Nazionale”. Title of the map. Tabula DUCATUS BRITANNIAE Gallis LE GOUVERNEMENT GENERAL DE BRETAGNE in suos Novem episcopatus omnes… A large magnificent decorative cartouche with the arms of the region. In upper left side, a plan of Brest. The map is very detailed with major cities and rivers. Size with margins : 60,5 x 52 cm / 23,6 x 20,4 inches. Handed colored, a small aureol in right center margin, on strong paper. Nuremberg, from “Grosse Atlas”, 1716, First state (no privilege), 18th Century. He founded his company in 1702. In 1705, he became the Geograph of the Emperor Charles VI. In the same year, he was also Member of the Prussian Academy of Sciences in Berlin. They protected the authors in all scientific fields such as printers, copper engravers, map makers and publishers. In 1716 Homann published his “Grosser Atlas ueber die ganze Welt” (Grand Atlas of all the World). Some maps were drawned with the engraver Christoph Weigel the Elder. Homann died in Nuremberg.
