ANTIQUE ORIGINAL COPPER ENGRAVED MAP. Fine unusual 1645 Blaeu’s stunning copper engraved map of. The map is filled with excellent topographic detail on cities, towns, rivers, forests, reliefs as well as regional divisions. The map is adorned with two attractive cartouches: title cartouche at upper left and one showing castle turrets at bottom right. Berry is a region located in the center of France. It was a province of France until départements replaced the provinces on 4 March 1790, when Berry became divided between the départements of Cher (High Berry) and Indre (Low Berry). The Berry region now consists of the départements of Cher, Indre and parts of Creuse. The city Bourges functioned as the capital of Berry. Dimensions: Framed: 23″ by 18.75″; Site of Map: 19″ by 14.25″. Very strong and dark impression on strong paper. Map folded down center. Beautifully framed under glass in wooden frame. Framing was opened many years ago from the back and overlay is chipping and retaped. Conditions are as you can see in the images.
