ORIGINAL 1795′EUROPE DIVIDED INTO ITS EMPIRES, KINGDOMS, STATES, REPUBLICS &C’ BY THOS KITCHIN, HYDROGRAPHER TO THE KING, WITH MANY ADDITIONS AND IMPORVEMENTS FROM THE LATEST SURVEYS AND OBSERVATIONS OF MR D’ANVILLE. INCLUDING EASTERN PART OF THE MEDITERRANEAN SEA WITH THE COASTS OF TURKEY, ANATOLIA, SYRIA, EGYPT AND BARBARY; WESTERN PART OF THE MEDITERRANEAN SEA WITH THE COASTS OF SPAIN, FRANCE, ITALY, & BARBARY. This is just a great original piece. It turns out the reason for me not knowing what map this is because in effect, this is really only a half of a map. The map was published by Laurie & Whittle in 1795 in 4 different sheets. The top 2 sheets titled the Eastern and Western part of the Northern States of Europe. These 2 sheets are not included. This map consists of the bottom 2 sheets showing the southern half of Europe as well as the top part of Africa. Really the map is centered around the Mediterranean Sea. It is a beautiful map showing this part of Europe. The map is large measuring 21 1/2 x 49 1/2 inches. You can see the vertical folds at the 1/4 mark from each side and then the center line where the 2 sheets were joined was done beautifully. They were really matched up nearly perfect. The 2 side margins are filled with statistical information regarding the countries show as they were in 1795. The bottom margin is lined with the flags of all the original countries. The map is in wonderful condition with really just some consistent and inconsistent toning. There is some original outlining in color of the empires and countries that is a wonderful compliment. A few other small spots, little tears, and a few things between the map and glass but nothing too bad at all. Map shows some minor rippling so it is not laid down. Mid 20th black wood frame is complimentary and ready to hang. Really a beautiful antique map presentation of the Mediterranean Sea and the countries surrounding with the boot of Italy cutting right down the middle. Frame measures 22 7/8 x 51 inches. CHECK THE PICTURES ON THIS GREAT PIECE. DONT MISS THIS OPPORTUNITY. If you have any questions regarding the work, please dont hesitate to ask. Pictures are an excellent indication of condition.
