This is brass tacked bound group of 7 mimeographed sheets making 14 pages with text on 10 pages, 8 ½ x 10 ½ inches, some soiling and chipping at the extremities and the last page has a 3 x 4 inch chip in the last paragraph with loss of text regarding Division Notes otherwise in good condition. Contents prints information relating to WWI Officers re-enlisting by Nov. 11, 1923 at the highest grade they held in the war and that after Nov. 11, 1923 they would have to enter as second lieutenants. There is a 2 page Schedule of Training Camp Instructions at Camp Devens, Mass, travel info, price list of articles of equipment and a roster of Division officers names. From the introductory text (in part): In view of the urgent need of furnishing accurate information of this sort to the Medical Personnel, it has been deemed expedient by the Surgeon General to utilize this portion of the Contemplated volume as a sort of advance Publication. It is to be understood that the following descriptions and conclusions, based on close observations of the French Service de Sante etc. This is a fascinating primary source written for the Battalion or Regimental Surgeon to be used as soon as he arrives relating to: Importance of Thorough Knowledge of the Sector of first line trenches, Knowledge of the Probable Terrain to be Occupied in the Course of contemplated Advance, First aid Surgery during Attack, Location of first aid station, Description of first aid station, Equipment and Personnel, Battalion Said Station, Regimental Aid Stations , etc, etc. Among the other important information the contents also gives measurements and descriptions of the trenches and how the stretcher bearers should navigate safely through them in case of artillery and gas attacks. Descriptions about how the surgeries should be constructed below ground to treat slightly wounded and severely wounded men, etc. Histories of a Few typical cases treated at Infirmary. [No author noted], not dated? The content give brief histories of 4 named, age and rank wounded WWI soldiers, 3 are A. Describes their wounds i. Machine gun bullet, gun shot wound, bullet wound in 4 different places, or in one case Pyodermia. Three of the them were picked up by Germans and Limberg Prison and Giessen Prison Camp are mentioned and how they were treated after being captured. Very interesting but fragile WWI map showing the inner defenses at Metz, France which remained under German control till the end of war. The sheet measures 15 ½ x 19 inches, map area measures 11 ½ x 16 inches. There is a long horizontal tear at the center fold but the 2 halves are still attached, looks like a fairly easy fix with some archive tape. Short vertical tear at center fold and at lower blank margin. These are interesting WWI A. Primary source materials and will be welcome additions to your archive.
