18th Century FFoldout Map of Toulan France Germany Netherlands 1747 Magazine

18th Century FFoldout Map of Toulan France – Germany – Netherlands 1747 Magazine. (Note: additional images are located below the description). Offered is an original, historic, & collectible old newspaper. THE GENTLEMAN’S MAGAZINE, London, January, 1747. Foldout map of France. Certainly the prime feature of this issue is the very nice foldout map titled in the cartouche: FRANCE With Its Acquired Territories In Germany, and the Netherlands… This map shows considerable detail including a close-up view of the harbor & town of Toulon. The map also shows the southern portion of England and just a bit of Corsica, Spain, and Ireland. This map folds out to measure 11 1/4 by 9 1/2 inches, is a bit irregular at the left margin but no loss, and a few discrete archival mends to the reverse not noticeable on the front. Near the back is the “Historical Chronicle” with various news reports of the day, including an Extract of a Letter from Cape Breton which is in Canada (see) and some reports on the trial of Lord Lovat. There is also: A Description of the Town and Harbour of Louisbourgh, on the Island of Cape Breton… Which takes a full column. Complete in 52 pages, 5 1/2 by 8 3/4 inches with wide untrimmed margins, full title/contents page with an engraving of St. John’s Gate, very nice condition. A very nice pre-Revolutionary War magazine from the “mother country” with a wide range of varied content. This was the first periodical to use the word “magazine” in its title, having begun in 1731 and lasting until 1907. Please Note: All of our offerings are 100% authentic! 18th c. Hand Colored Map of Artois, France (Wm. De I'Isle-John Senex dated 1710)

This lovely mad is entitled ARTOIS AND THE COUNTRY ADJACENT. I believe the map to have been originally engraved by William de I’Ilse. I think this was Senex’s revision of deI’Ilse’s original work. In addition to this, he was an engraver, astrologer, explorer, geologist and geographer to Queen Anne of Great Britain. He was elected to the fellowship of the Royal Society in London in 1828. This map is 26″ x 20″. It was hand colored at the time of its creation (or shortly thereafter). It is on hand laid paper and has light uniform age toning. Three corners have folds and there are minor tears in the margins no extending into the image. The upper edge has evidence of the map having been bound into an atlas at one time. The item “18th c.
