Offered for your consideration is an Original 289 Year Old – c 1730s Antique Atlas Map by Homann Heirs. Tabula Aquitaniae complectens Gubernationem Guiennae et Vasconiae exhibita a Ioh Bapt Homanno Norimbergae’ – Map of southwestern France, fully engraved with mountains, forests, roads and cities. A decorative border surrounds three insets: fortification plans of Bayonne and Blaye, and a fine vignette bird’s-eye view of the city of Bordeaux. The map carries good detail of the Pyrenees and a highly detailed depiction of the Canal du Midi, here labeled the Canal Royal. The map is further embellished with a large, allegorical title cartouche. This fine map of Southwest France is in very good condition with very minimal wear you would typically see on a map of this age. The map appears to be linen backed and, of note, some staining, soiling, small margin tears and some missing margin as shown in the pictures. The map’s overall dimensions including margins is approx 24.1″ x 20.5″. Exceedingly nice map of a high quality… My widetek 25 scanner has a max scan size of 25″ x 18.5″, thus some of the margin has been cut off in the scan, but are present as evidenced by the last two photos.
