Maurice Bouguereau (Flemish Mauricij Bogueraldj), also Bougereau , (somewhere in Flanders in the 16th century, 1596 in France) was a French printer, bookseller, cartographer and publisher who worked in Tours. From 1588 to 1596, his address was on Rue de la Scellerie. The most important work by Maurice Bouguereau was the Atlas Le Theatre Francoys , which he published in Tours in 1594, the first Atlas of France and a milestone in the history of French cartography. Henry IV (15531610) had given him the order for this work, who at that time fought for the unification of his kingdom and wanted to demonstrate his power and greatness with this publication. This was particularly emphasized with a portrait of the king in the atlas, which was shown together with a general map of France; sometimes a sonnet was printed instead of the map under the portrait.
