The geographical is based on the work of Abraham Ortelius and Braun & Hogenberg. It was one of the most influential geographical works of the 16th century. 1635 Willem Blaeu map of northern France, entitled. “Comitatvs Bellovacvm Vernacule Beavvais, “. Fine engraved map with original hand-coloring. This very attractive early 17. Century map depicts the. Beauvais is probably best known for its tapestry factory, which in the17th and 18th centuries produced tapestries of exceptionally high quality. Most towns, cities, forests, and waterways are identified. The colorful title cartouche and gentleman holding a stadia rod (lower left), further enhances the map. Blaeu was founder of the leading 17. Century Dutch cartographic firm. The achievements of the firms of Blaeu were remarkable, & the palm for supremacy in map production in any age must be awarded to the Blaeu Tooley. Original Antique ca 1690 Copper Engraving Map Grenoble France Pierre Aveline

Very decorative copper-plate engraving map of Grenoble France by Pierre Aveline. Hand-printed on hand-made paper and and hand-colored. Well signed within the plate as shown in pic #4 and guaranteed to be by Pierre Aveline. Comes from a local Dallas estate, guaranteed an antique original map ca. 1690 and not any type of a copy or reproduction and you absolutely will not be disappointed. Nicely matted and framed as shown in a gold/silver leaf custom frame. There is an old Rust Picture Framing sticker on the back as shown. They were a very high end picture frame shop in Dallas ca. About the 1960s – 1970s known for their archival framing work. Measures about 16″ x 19″ overall including the frame and please also see the tape measure pics. Not examined out of frame but appears in excellent condition, as shown. There is a small amount of wrinkling in the paper at the top left corner as shown in pic #5. There are a couple of small chips in the gold/silver leaf on the frame and please see pic # and there are about 3 of these chips on the frame overall. No holes, tears, stains, fading, insect damage, or disfiguring folds or creases in the map. Frame in overall excellent condition as shown and retains its glass which has no problems. Metz France 1497 Chronicle Of Nuremberg Hartmann Schedel Original

CHRONIQUE DE NUREMBERG, original title LIBER CHRONICARUM, German Edition, on paper. A cosmographic encyclopedia with 1,089 engravings describing the ages of the world since Creation, the book opens with the story of the biblical heptameron. It was printed by Anton Koburger, a great German bookseller of the late 15th century who contributed to the development of woodcarving. Michael Wolgemut and his son-in-law Wilhelm Pleydenwurff executed the illustrations around 1490, at a time when their studio was at its peak and the young Albrecht Dürer had just finished his apprenticeship there. The views of cities, some authentic, others invented or copied from older models, have an interest both artistic and topographical. The page presents several wood engravings views. Of Mercator’s Ptolemy Atlas:’Claudii Ptolemaei Tabulae Geographicae Orbis Terrarum Veteribus Cogniti. , published by Francois Halma & Willem van den Water, Utrecht & Leonard Strick, Franeker. This Atlas was first published in 1578 and re-published in 1584, 1605, 1618/1619, 1695, 1698, 1704 and 1730. For the 1798 ed. The plates were reworked wit new cartouches and a new title engraving. Of all the editions of Ptolemy the Mercator editions are considered the finest in execution. It was Mercator’s intention to produce an Atlas of the classical world, not a current atlas, made as a companion to his modern atlas. State: Revised 2nd state. Artists and Engravers: Made by’Gerard Mercator’ after’Ptolemy’. Gerard Mercator (Kremer) was born in Rupelmonde in Flanders and studied in Louvain. He has drawn his first map in 1537 and became a cartographer and globe maker. In 1552 he moved to Duisburg, Germany where he published his famous 18-sheet world map in 1569 with his own new projection, today called Mercator projection. Later he decided to publish a new edition of Ptolemy’s Geographia. Followed by his major work, a 3 volume collection of maps to which the word “Atlas” was applied the first time. The first volume was published 1585, followed by the second in 1589 and the third one after his death in 1595 by his son Rumold. A second edition of all three parts was published 1602. 1604 Jodocus Hondius acquired the plates and published several edition together with his sons Jodocus II and Henricus until 1633.
