Original Antique Maps and Prints. Description: This original old antique print / plate originates from the scarse French edition of’Description de touts les Pays-Bas… Guicciardini, published by Jan Janszn. Arnhem and Petrus van der Keere, Amsterdam in 1613. He was born in Florence, a son of Jacopo Guicciardini. The Guicciardini family established a presence in Antwerp and in 1541 Lodovico arrived to work with his uncle. At the same time they functioned as informents for the Medici’s back home. He stayed until his death. At one point he was accused with his brother Giovan Battista of killing Gaspare Ducci, who they held resposible for their bancruptcy in 1543. Lodovico apparently started writing in 1552 and in 1556 he published his first work’Comentarii della…… In 1567 he got the’Descrittione…. He wrote a few more works. In 1569 he landed in jail because he critisized Alva’s policies. In 1582 he landed in jail again because he apparently knew Jean Jaureguy, who tried to kill William of Orange, but he was released soon. Although he had been prosperous at times he ended a poor man. Circa 1640 Jodocus Hondius antique map of Bourdelois Pays de Medoc et la Prevoste de Born. This 17th Century map (circa 1640) depicts the Bordeaux region in France. This wonderful original antique map was taken from Jodocus Hondius’s. New Theater of the World or New Atlas comprising Tables and Descriptions of all Regions of the Earth. The map itself is quite interesting. In addition to the main Bordeaux region and cartouche, there are several ships sailing the Mediterranean, a compass rose and finally a submerged sea monster. Condition is Fine for its 357 years with narrow margins and a large part of the sky and lower margin cropped off. Some very minor paper surface and image losses on the upper right front area from age in very small spots that are hardly noticeable. Some very light wear on the edges. A small more recent proactive edge repair. Some light album residue on the reverse along the edges from a previous mount or mounts likely from the 19th to mid 20th century. A period penned word on the reverse edge along with a later penciled catalog number. Medium weight cream colored paper. Vue de Trianon dans le Parc de Versailles du Cote de l’Avenue.
