RARE 1730 ANTIQUE GAME with the HISTORY & KINGS OF FRANCE by CREPY LARGE PLATE

Title of the plate. “TABLEAU CHRONOLOGIQUE et HISTORIQUE des Principaux Evenemens arrivées en FRANCE depuis l’Etablissement de la MONARCHIE jusqu’a présent, Dressé en fome de JEU”. HISTOIRE CHRONOLOGIQUE des Rois de France Depuis le Roy PHARAMOND jusqu’au Roy Louis XV, Dressé En Forme de Jeu. Se vend A Paris Chez Crepy rue St jacques. Very unusual game, “jeu de l’Oie” in French, with 102 + 87 cases, copper engraved by Jean-Baptiste Crepy, 18e century. With the History and the Kings of France, from Pharamond to Louis XV. This is a double game. Outside, a spiral of 102 numbered cases, each one contains the mention of a dated event. The game begins by the case 1 with the event “Les 1ers François s’établissent le long du haut Rhin et elisent Pharamond pour leur Roy en 420″, the last case is the number 102 with the event “Naissance du Dauphin, qui a été donné a la France pour combler son bonheur en 1729″. Inside the spiral, 87 numbered cases drawing a crenellated line. Each case contains the name of a King of France from Pharamond, the first one, to LOUIS XV in 1715. Near main cases the portrait of the King is engraved. The first step is to choose a guide who will say out loud the events written in the cases. The player must repeat this accurately, or pay a penalty. There is instructions in the different cases. The text on the right and the left side of the title gives ther way of playing the game. A stunning incredibly scarce and rare detailed colour large print of. Planispherae Coelestis Hemispherium Septentrionale et Meridionale. Published by NM Martine 1973. Images of Tycho’s underground self built observatory and the Tower of Piza corresponding to an experiment that Galileo undertook to disprove Aristotle’s theory of gravity are also illustrated. With moon cycles to top and solar eclipse and titles to bottom. A rare, timeless spectacular visual delight with intricate detail throughout that is guaranteed to serve as a constant talking point. Please note, all images apart from eight and nine are taken during daytime hours to illustrate how light illuminates the detail through glass plate which were taken whilst the plate was sat in a window box hence, the slight shadow beside and beneath Tycho Brahe. Eight and nine taken in the evening demonstrating how the constellations glow quite beautifully like stars. In overall superb vintage condition with only a minor chip to glass at bottom left corner, else no peeling, scratches or visible defects. Choisy French Map Paris Versailles Creamware Plate c. 1830

An early 19th Century French faience creamware plate featuring a French Map which includes Paris and Versailles. Impressed mark of’P & H’ Choisy for Choisy-leRoi, this mark was used from 1825 1835. 8 ½ in diameter. Very unusual game, “jeu de l’Oie” in French, with 109 cases, copper engraved by Jean-Baptiste Crepy, 18e century. With the Governements and the towns of France. In the center, a map of France, while the spiral track surrounding it begins with the departure from Paris and ends there also, at the winning case. France is described in superlative terms in text to the right of the map beginning France is the best and one of the most abundant countries of Europe… Each case represents a governemnt or a town of France, with some commentaries. The game begins by the case 1 decorated by the fleur de lys (the symbol of the royalty in France) with the commentary de Paris a l’ORLEANOIS Vins Bled Safran par Fontainebleau Nemours.. “, the last case is the number 109 decorated by the portrait of Louis XV, King of “France and Navarre”, with the commentary “PARIS Provoté et Vicomté… Sur la Riviere de Seyne Residence des ROIS et la Capitale du Roiaume de FRANCE Gouvernement Particulier. The first step is to choose a guide who will say out loud the names of the towns visited and their governmental area. The player must repeat this accurately, or pay a penalty.
