Braun corresponds with map sellers and scientists around the world. From 1572 to 1617 he edited the Civitates orbis terrarum, which contains 546 prospects, bird’s-eye views and maps of old cities. He began work with Frans Hogenberg but was the main publisher of the atlas. He acquired the copper plates, hired artists and wrote the texts.
