An original early 17th century copper engraved miniature antique map of Brittany or Bretagne, France by Petrus Bertius. The title is displayed in a strapwork cartouche with the further title of Descriptio Britanniae in Gall. Lugd in the upper margin. Malo, Belle Ile, Morlaix, Brest, Rennes, St. Brieuc, Quimper, Nantes etc. A crisp dark impression on robust hand laid paper with Latin text to verso. Enhanced with expertly crafted later hand colouring. Fine condition other than some faint staining in the sea area, free of repairs or restoration. An excellent example of this scarce map. 5″ x 4″ (140mm x 90mm). Map area only, with. Petrus Bertius 1565 -1629. Also known Pieter or Peter Bertius of Flemish birth he was educated at Leiden University and was a theologian, historian and mathematician of some standing, but is remembered chiefly for his cartographic works. His brothers in law Joducus Hondius. And Pieter Van Den Keere were also highly successful cartographers and engraved many of the maps for the Tabularum Geographicum Contractarum. Antique foreign travel maps france

Cartes Taride, Pour Cyclistes et Automobiles. And the overall Carte of France showing all 32 sections. Some writing in the France showing a route taken. Not sure about the others but all are solid. Photos show external conditions. Not sure about dates but a clue may be in the lower right of No 1 and 28, see photo. Weight of this parcel is 7 lbs. Very scarce in a run like this! Lovely antique mid-18th century engraved map with beautiful and likely original hand color. Delightful pictorial cartouche featuring a lion, soldier and eagle. In near VG or better condition, minor light surface age wear and toning as typical, some faint minor foxing in the blank margins, overall the image is clean, well preserved and very attractive. 7 1/4″ x 6 1/4″.
