Jean Baptiste Bourguignon D’Anville (1697- 1782) was a French Cartographer and map maker working in Paris in the middle of the 18th Century. He became one of the most highly regarded cartographer of his time, because of the accuracy of his work and his ability to build on and improve the work of previous cartographers. This map first appeared in’Geographie Ancienne et Abregee’ first published in 1769 but republished in many languages in subsequent years. This comes from a copy printed by Christopher Weigel in Nuremberg in 1784. Page size is 77cm by 57cm. Map area is in good condition for age, engravings are clear. Some stains and marks.
