A DATED ORIGINAL RIGOBERT BONNE COPPER PLATE MAP. FROM THE 18th CENTURY FRENCH ATLAS: GRENET – ATLAS PORTATIF Atlas portatif pour servir a l’intelligence des auteurs classiques. L’abbé Grenet professeur au Collège de Lisieux. Dédié à L’université de Paris. THIS IS AN ORIGINAL ENGRAVING OVER 200 YEARS OLD HAND COLOURED ON HAND MADE PAPER. The page measures approximately 14 1/2 inches x 10 1/2 inches (370mm x 270mm). This scarce map is a genuine 18th century original. Fine quality HAND MADE LAID PAPER. This attractive and important map was produced by Rigobert Bonne, a significant cartographer during the period of late 18th century. Original hand coloured detail. Titled with date of printing. This map will look superb when framed. A scarce and collectable investment. In 1773 Bonne succeeded Jacques Nicolas Bellin as Royal Cartographer to the King of France (Louis XV & Louis XVI) in the office of the Hydrographer at the Depôt de la Marine. Working in his official capacity, Bonne compiled some of the most detailed and accurate maps of the period. Bonnes work represents an important step in the evolution of the cartographic ideology away from the decorative work of the 17th and early 18th century towards a more detail oriented and practical aesthetic. With regard to the rendering of terrain Bonne maps bear many stylistic similarities to those of his predecessor, Bellin. However, Bonne maps generally abandon such common 18th century decorative features such as elaborate decorative cartouches, and compass roses. The item “1790 DATED RIGOBERT BONNE MAP FRANCE DEPARTMENTS CHAMPAGNE BRIE” is in sale since Monday, April 3, 2017. This item is in the category “Antiques\Maps, Atlases & Globes\Curiosities Maps”. Ile-de-France le Valois French Vexin Brie 1677 du Val Rare folio antique map

Ile-de-France le Valois French Vexin Brie 1677 du Val Rare folio antique map

Ile-de-France le Valois French Vexin Brie 1677 du Val Rare folio antique map

L’Isle de France, le Valois, le Vexin-Francois, Le Hurepoix, et la Brie. (Northern France, Fontainebleu, River Seine, Forest of Retz, Eure River). Printed for a very rare folio atlas, this loose map offered exactly as acquired. In totally poor condition. Dampstained down both sides, at top corners and across bottom, thin strip of newer linen tape neatly applied on back for reinforcing the centerfold. At middle centerfold are found 3 small “pulls”, spots where the map has stuck to the facing paper and pulled the printed area away leaving a white blank spot behind. However, despite the fairly poor physical condition, the map still has a noble character about it and could readily be framed for display or added to a collection because of the tremendous rarity factor alone. Original fold line as issued. 17 1/8″ H x 23″ W. Printed area measures c. 15 1/2″ H x 20 3/8″ W. We do not sell modern reprints. The item “Ile-de-France le Valois French Vexin Brie 1677 du Val Rare folio antique map” is in sale since Monday, December 24, 2018. This item is in the category “Antiques\Maps, Atlases & Globes\Europe Maps”. The seller is “oldmapsoldbooks” and is located in Dover, New Hampshire. This item can be shipped worldwide.
