C1607 Hand Color Map of LORRAINE. Detailed Configuration 414 years ago. An outstanding hand colored map entitled. Lotharingia Ducatus, vulgo Lorraine. Willem Janszoon Blaeu was a Dutch cartographer, atlas maker and publisher. Along with his son Johannes Blaeu, Willem is considered one of the notable figures of the Netherlandish/Dutch school of cartography in its golden age (the 16th and 17th centuries). This map shows great detail of all the towns and cities in Lorraine. Major forests, mountains and rivers are shown with larger cities highlighted by church steeples. Description of the area in Old German on the reverse. Signed in the lower right corner – Amsterdami Apud Guiljesmum Blaeuw. Map page size is about 18 ” by 22 “, large margin for framing.
