Roman France -’Gaul’ by Edward Wells. Copper engraved map on hand laid paper with later hand colouring. In 1700 he published’A New Set of Maps both Ancient and Present Geography’ dedicated to William, Duke of Gloucester who was then a student at Oxford. Unfortunately, the Duke died, aged eleven, in the July of that year. The maps were popular and were re-issued a number of times during the first half of the 18th Century. This map was engraved in London by R Spofforth. Page size is 44.5cm x 61cm. Map area is in good condition for age, engravings are clear. Some stains and browning to the edge of the map.
