Sanson Original Hand- Colored, Copper Engraved Map of France from 1651. GOUVERNEMENT GENERAL DE L’ISLE DE FRANCE ET PAYS CIRCOMVOISINS. Fine detailed map of Paris and the surrounding area. Was published by Sanson in 1651 in Paris. The map is finely detailed and decorated with a Title cartouche. No text on verso. The map is in good condition. There have been repairs to the bottom left & right corners with backing using Japan paper. Originally issued with a centerfold, the map has now been flattened out. The size is 15 1/2 x 20 1/2, not including margin. (1600 1667) was a. Termed by some the creator of French. In which he’s been called the father of French cartography.
